Recent data from Lands of America records $379 million in farms, ranches and other land for sale for sale in the Hoosier State. This represents a combined 39,086 acres of Indiana land for sale. Of Indiana's 92 counties, Hamilton County had the most land for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale in Indiana on Lands of America recently was $6 million, while the median price for land for sale in Indiana came in at $319,530. The average price of land and other rural acreage for sale in Indiana was $371,332. There was 747 acres of sold land in Indiana recorded in July 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from July 2018. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $5.2 million. Hamilton County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. Most visitors to Indiana flock to Indianapolis for the Indy500 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, its sports teams and the city's world-class children's museum. Beyond the big city, however, Indiana offers attractions including the bucolic pleasures of Elkhart's Amish Country, five up-and-coming wine trails and hundreds of u-pick orchards and farm-to-table restaurants and markets. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Indiana. The state has also been ranked among the ten best states for the cost of living by U.S. News & World Report. In terms of its size, Indiana is the country's 38th-largest state, covering an area of 36,420 square miles (23 million acres). Of this area, 35,826 square miles (98 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 593 square miles is made up of water.
